 "Awaken the World" was written to inspire everyone to realize that they have the power to change the world! Every day, each one of us makes choices. Choices that can make the world better for one person or several people. Those choices may range from picking up a book a fellow student dropped to giving a reassuring smile to a friend who is having a bad day. I always tell my students that they should treat others as they want to be treated. I hope this piece inspires your group to change the world!

With so many things in the world that seem to divide us, I wanted to write a piece to allow ensembles to focus on what unites us. It is my hope that this piece helps groups realize the importance of working together not just with their music, but to make the world a better place. I hope you and your students enjoy "United!"
